2025 91´«Ã½ Spring Virtual International Fellows Program Draws 202 Foreign Regulators

As the 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) celebrates the 20th anniversary of its International Fellows Program, more than 200 regulators from 37 jurisdictions will participate in the virtual spring session, which starts today and runs through May 12.

The intensive course will support foreign regulators’ strong interest in learning about several aspects of the U.S. state-based insurance regulatory system. 91´«Ã½ technical experts have prepared 24 lectures for the spring program and will engage directly with the fellows throughout the program.

With international collaboration vital to strong, safe insurance markets, this opportunity will showcase the U.S. state-based system and serve as another outlet for the 91´«Ã½ and insurance regulators worldwide to connect.

91´«Ã½ International Fellows Program Background

Building on the success of the China Intern-Pilot Program in 2004, the 91´«Ã½ developed a formal International Internship Program in 2005 to further working relations with foreign markets, emphasizing the exchange of regulatory techniques and technology. The program was officially renamed the 91´«Ã½ International Fellows Program in 2010. The program provides international regulators with virtual and in-person training on U.S. insurance regulation to enhance global regulatory collaboration. Since its inception, the program has welcomed more than 700 participants, both in person and virtually, from more than 50 countries, providing invaluable training and hands-on experience in U.S. insurance regulation.

91´«Ã½ the 91´«Ã½

As part of our state-based system of insurance regulation in the United States, the 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) provides expertise, data, and analysis for insurance commissioners to effectively regulate the industry and protect consumers. The U.S. standard-setting organization is governed by the chief insurance regulators from the 50 states, the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories. Through the 91´«Ã½, state insurance regulators establish standards and best practices, conduct peer reviews, and coordinate regulatory oversight. 91´«Ã½ staff supports these efforts and represents the collective views of state regulators domestically and internationally.
